The answers, before the question.
Catil Servizi has worked in Venice water logistics since 1985. We work for the Biennale, the city's major museums, the leading film production companies, art galleries, institutions and private clients. Our clients' most frequent questions, grouped by theme.
Working with Catil
01How do I request a quote?
Write to preventivi@catilservizi.it or call us on +39 041 523 1777, stating what needs moving (weight, dimensions, photos if possible), the service date, pick-up and drop-off points and any access notes (floor, stairs, restricted-traffic zone).
02How long does it take to get a quote?
For standard requests, you will have the quote within 24 working hours. For more complex services (multiple stops, high-value goods, special permits, multi-year contracts) the average is 48–72 working hours, because we want to give you an accurate estimate rather than a rough figure.
03What are the payment methods and terms?
For private clients, usually a 50% deposit on confirmation and the balance before the service. For companies, institutional clients and multi-year contracts, terms are agreed case by case.
04Do you work on Saturdays, Sundays and at night?
Yes, with notice and a surcharge agreed in the quote. For film productions and Biennale events, working unconventional hours is standard practice, and we have pilots trained specifically for it.
Safety, insurance and certifications
05Are you insured?
Yes. We carry public and employer's liability cover (RCT/RCO) up to €2,500,000. For artworks and high-value goods, our liability cover works alongside the client's or gallery's all-risk fine-art policy. On request, we can have one issued through our insurance partners from 1.5% of the declared value, with a €150 minimum.
06What certifications do you hold?
Catil Servizi is certified ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management) and ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Management) through URS — United Registrar of Systems. We are on the anti-mafia White List of the Venice Prefecture, a requirement for many public tenders. We have been a Società Benefit (Benefit Corporation) since 2024.
Specialist services
07How do you handle artwork transport?
A preliminary survey for works over 500 kg or of exceptional size, packing in structural crates (climate-controlled where required), transport on vessels with an onboard crane when the weight exceeds 100 kg, staff trained in art-handling protocol, and photographic documentation at every stage. We coordinate directly with your insurer, your venue and your art handler.
08Do you work for film productions?
Yes, it is one of our main areas. We offer quarterly contracts at an hourly rate with a reserved vessel and a dedicated pilot, or one-off services. The fleet has twenty vessels graded by capacity, six of them with an onboard crane. PVC covers and rigid cabins are available on request. Modular interior fit-out for crew transfers, talent shuttle, technical equipment and catering.
Operations and fleet
09Do you have your own dock?
Yes. Our operating base is on Isola Nuova del Tronchetto, with office, dock and transit warehouse. For loads arriving from the mainland, as an alternative to the Tronchetto dock, we have a loading dock in Mestre (Via San Giuliano 8/b). Together the two sites allow door-to-door service without relying on public docks with time restrictions.
10How much can the vessels carry?
Our fleet ranges from 7 to 60 tonnes of payload. The flagship El Nini lifts up to 20 tonne-metres with its onboard crane and holds up to 56 cubic metres. Six of our vessels have an onboard crane, which lets us load and unload even where there are no equipped docks.
11Do you work on the islands and the mainland?
Yes. We operate throughout central Venice, Giudecca, Murano, Burano, Lido, Pellestrina and the other islands of the northern and southern lagoon. For arrivals from the mainland we serve Mestre, Marghera and, on request, beyond the region (truck loading + Tronchetto transit + lagoon delivery).
